Today we went on a trip to Sharrow Forum to have a go at building stools. We all had a good time and enjoyed the first session with everyone successfully putting their stool together. Next week we are going to complete our stools and decorate them! Below are a few photos and there are more on our Facebook page here.

We are running “Art as a Second Language” in partnership with Sheffield Museums and Galleries. Today was our first session and we had a great turn out. If you’d like to come along to the next one it is 9th November 2pm at the Millenium Galleries. Everyone welcome – speakers with English as a second or first language.

Every couple of weeks (sometimes weekly) we are taking groups of students to the museums and galleries in Sheffield. Here is a recent photo of some of the group at Graves Art gallery. If you are a student at Learn for Life and would like to come on the next visit please ask at reception.

Thank you to the Sheffield Steelers who have given us tickets to watch them play Ice Hockey against Blaze on Saturday 29th October. If you’re a student at Learn for Life ask at reception and we’ll save you a ticket!

This week Carol took her Entry 1 group to visit the Nick Hedges exhibition at the Winter Gardens. Everyone had a lovely afternoon which you can see from the photos below. More are available on our Facebook page here.

On Friday 10th June students from Learn for Life were invited to visit the opening of Doc Fest in Sheffield as part of the “Door to Doc” project. We were picked up by coach and taken to the Showroom cinema where we were given complimentary gift bags and saw the documentary, “Kedi”. The documentary explored the journeys of street cats and the people in Istanbul. After the documentary we were given a tour around the Alternative Realities Exhibition at the Millennium Galleries and the Virtual Reality Arcade at the Site Gallery which were very futuristic and hands-on. We got to speak to a holocaust survivor and got to walk around Mars. There are more photos available on our Facebook page.

A small group of us went to Sheffield Cathedral to take part in BBC Radio 4’s “Any Questions?”. It was an interesting and educational evening. It was also fascinating for individuals who have previously not been allowed, or seen people, disagreeing with the government in their own country due to fear of imprisonment or worse.
