Transport in Sheffield
Sheffield has many accessible public transport links that not only cover the city centre and suburbs, but also help you to reach areas like Derbyshire, the Peak District, as well as nearby cities including Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham. Buses in Sheffield –
There are two different bus interchanges in Sheffield, that will help you to reach every part of the city and its suburbs.
The first of which is located on Pond street, which is situated just behind the Sheffield Hallam University city campus and is just a two minute walk from Sheffield train station. Address: Archway Centre, Pond Square, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2BD
The other bus interchange in Sheffield is located on Arundel Gate. This is located pretty closely to the other interchange, and can be found just behind the Crucible Theatre, as shown in the map below. Address: 30 Arundel Gate, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2PP
There is also a scheme in which bus users can buy 1 day passes, 7 day passes and 28 day passes, which are eligible to use on any local bus service within the Sheffield TravelMaster zone. The prices for these tickets are listed below:
- 1 day bus pass – Onboard and Advanced payment £4.70
- 7 day bus pass – Onboard payment – £17.50, Advanced payment – £16.30
- 28 day bus pass – Advanced payment – £61.20
If purchasing these tickets in advance, they are available online and at ticket vending machines at both of the bus interchanges in Sheffield city centre.

Trains in and around Sheffield –
Sheffield train station is located just behind the Sheffield Hallam university’s city campus, and about 2 minutes away from the Pond Street bus interchange. Address: Sheaf St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2BP
Sheffield’s local train network is controlled by Northern. There are regular trains running every day to local stations including Meadowhall, Heeley and Dore & Totley. There are also regular trains to other South Yorkshire towns such as Doncaster and Rotherham. There are also direct trains to many major cities including Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Nottingham.

- Monday-Friday: 05:00 to 22:50
- Saturday: 05:00 to 22:50
- Sunday: 07:45 to 23:00
There are also self service ticket machines at Sheffield station, which you can use to purchase tickets and also collect pre-paid tickets.
Trams in Sheffield
Sheffield has an extensive tram network that will allow you to navigate around the city centre, the city’s suburbs, and also to nearby Rotherham.
There are 4 different routes that will help you to get around Sheffield by tram.
Blue Route –
Halfway – Gleadless Townend – City Centre – Hillsborough – Malin Bridge
The blue route runs around every 15 minutes during the daytime Monday to Saturday, around every 20 minutes early morning, and around every 30 minutes after 7pm. On Sundays the trams on the blue route will run approximately every 30 minutes.
Yellow Route –
Meadowhall – Attercliffe – City Centre – Hillsborough – Middlewood
The yellow route runs around every 15 minutes during the daytime Monday to Saturday, around every 20 minutes early morning, and around every 30 minutes after 7pm. On Sundays the trams on the yellow route will run approximately every 30 minutes.
Purple Route –
Herdings Park – Gleadless Townend – City Centre
The purple route trams are unchanged, with them running every 30 minutes every day.
Tram-train route –
Parkgate – Rotherham Central – Sheffield (Cathedral)
The tram-train route operates two services every hour.
